Blue and White, My Favorite Combo

So I have had these tables (although you’ll only see one in photos, we bought an identical pair)  for a long time. Like probably 6 months? That’s a long time to have a piece of unfinished furniture around here. Especially when I have a vision for it.

I love the blue and white color combo. There is something so fresh, so classic, about it. Crisp and clean. Timeless.

Here is what I started with.

photo 1 (30)Lovely dark wood, sturdy pieces. But kinda plain. Nothing really special. But I was inspired! That’s right- with blue and white.

So I started by painting one of them in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (ASCP) Old White with two coats- the usual for this color. Especially over beautiful dark wood like this.

Then, I used my delicate masking tape to create a 3″ stripe mimicking a grain sack (remember I did something similar here?). A thick blue stripe on a white (-ish, more tan) linen is a common grain sack appearance. I painted two coats of ASCP Greek Blue and removed the tape white it was still wet.

photo 2 (21)I started on the matching table and got to one coat of Old White, when we moved. 4 months ago. I didn’t touch it again until a few weeks ago when I did the second coat of Old White.

And yesterday, I finally did the Greek Blue stripe.

IMG_8649But it was ok because I used some amazing sanding blocks I’ve never used before from Lowes. Seriously. Cheap and awesome.

So I roughed up the edges and top a little bit to mimic the normal wear of a piece. Some clear wax and these babies are done.

IMG_8653 I love how they turned out. They have the classic look I was going for.

IMG_8648Even better, the shelf underneath is awesome for storage. I can imagine these tables flanking a sofa or bed and holding blankets or books underneath- keeping them off the ground.

IMG_8637They truly are a pair I just wasn’t able to get them both in a good spot for photos. The other side of this bed (the guest bed) has a stack of vintage suitcases as a nightstand that I didn’t want to move since they are arranged perfectly. However, if these don’t sell it looks like I’ve got perfect new nightstands!

So what do you think of these? Do you like the blue stripe? Do you like open end tables like these?

If you are interested in these, take a look at the store page to see if they are still available.
