White Sofa Table

Recently, I have been painting a lot of things white. I mean, it’s hard to go wrong with white.

IMG_1391We recently painted our kitchen cabinets white, and yes eventually you’ll get an update on that. We got white sofas a few months back too. I love the brightness in the clean feeling that it brings to a room. Even though I still love beautiful bright and deep colors, I also love white.

IMG_1361I decided to paint this sofa table recently after the Graphite sofa table sold quickly, but at first I wasn’t sure what color to paint it. Because of the dark wood underneath, a white paint would really look great because it would give some wonderful contrast when distressing. So, I went with white.
I’ve always used Annie Sloan’s Old White Chalk Paint. I still love this color and will definitely keep using it. But, I’ve been more drawn to pure whites recently and so made my own chalk paint (like I did here and here) for this piece.

I used the same recipe, 1 cup latex paint with 1 tbsp unsanded grout. Mix really well. That’s it.

I used Behr off-the-shelf white for this one and it took a good two coats to cover this piece.

IMG_1366IMG_1368I distressed just a few hours after I finished painting and the paint came off so well. I was really surprised about how well it distressed considering this paint was latex-based. It hasn’t been as easy in the past with my DIY recipe but now I think it’s because I was letting it cure overnight.

IMG_1398Since I was using a pure white, I didn’t want to risk any chance of yellowing with wax. So I used polycrylic over this piece since it dries clear.

IMG_1392The hardware to the faux drawer got a little update with some ORB spray paint.

IMG_1401I love how this piece turned out and just see it being a great addition to a dining room, foyer, living room, or even to hold a television.
