Cream Painted Dresser

Custom work is very fun for me. I love being able to help clients take a piece of furniture in their home and make it look new. Often times painting a piece can save them hundreds and hundreds of dollars because they choose to redo it instead of replace. This time was no exception.

This is a really solid piece that was in pretty good condition to begin with. But, it was a little outdated with the very dark wood and gold hardware. She is moving to a lighter and more neutral and fresh palette in their master bedroom.

IMG_1766 We decided that a dark bone color would be best contrast against the khaki-colored walls. I chose Cozy Cottage by Behr (from Home Depot) and mixed up my paint.

Two coats all over and this piece was looking pretty great.

I lightly distressed around the edges and the (faux) keyholes so the dark wood pops through.

I finished it up with a coat of Trewax. I truly love this wax. I have a can of their dark wax, Mahogany, I am itching to try out! Hopefully I will get to this weekend.

I spray-painted the original hardware metallic black (like oil-rubbed bronze) so it really updates this piece.

It looks so fresh and updated now. I love this before and after!

A light paint color (white or close to it) over a dark wood is one of my all-time favorite looks. The contrast and timelessness is beautiful.

IMG_1853What do you think of the makeover? Are you a fan of the light paint/dark wood contrast like me? Have you painted anything recently? Let me know in the comments!
