My husband and I recently moved to Austin and are living in a lovely rental home. I’ll be sharing photos of it soon. For now, take a look at our previous home.
Our Arkansas home
This is our lovely 1979 ranch home. It has great character with brick, shutters, and large windows! Here’s how we updated the exterior.
Front living room:
Main living room:
This room started beige wall to wall, including the fireplace with tiny shutters blocking the large windows (here). We updated the look by using grey paint on the walls, mint on the brick fireplace (here), and painted the mantel and fireplace surround white (here). That and taking down the shutters makes the room much brighter and more open!
Our great, big dining room got a makeover with new paint on the walls and trim after removing all the window coverings. Now it gets beautiful light and a view of our green yard! My husband made that beautiful table (see here). I also gave a beautiful chandelier an update with spray paint to bring some lovely character to the room (here).
Office:This room started with big, heavy shelves, mini blinds, a valance, and beige walls. After removing the shelves, blinds, and valance and painting the walls and trim (here), the office is much brighter.
Once another beige box, this room has undergone a major makeover. Removing valances and painting the walls grey (here) freshened up the room significantly. Changing out the dresser (here/here) and décor (here) makes the room feel more open. The biggest change was making our own upholstered headboard for a fraction of the retail price (see the tutorial here)!!
Our bathroom started very bland and has underwent a renovation right before we listed out home. We painted the vanity with chalk paint (here), installed new floors, shiplap, painted the shower, and painted the walls (see the reveal here). These on-budget changes gave it a whole new look!
Our back patio is summer-ready! We have a lovely large backyard and love watching the trees change, dogs play, and colorful birds fly through. We’ve spruced up our favorite warm-weather hangout with strings of lights, lanterns, and homey artwork. Check out more photos of the space here.
Now a laundry room worthy to be photographed, this utilitarian space got a makeover just before we listed our home with new paint and flooring (see here).
